Many on this list played with us in a number of tournaments last year. Adding them full time this year makes this team even better. Already rated as a top ten team in the Midwest by Perfect Game, the additions on this list will move this team up that list even further. The left handed hitting Kalk is the #1 rated catcher in the state by Perfect Game and hit .526 in 49 plate appearances last summer. Conradt has shown the staff flashes of being an elite pitcher with an electric arm and advanced off-speed pitches for a Freshman.
INFIELD: Last years team MVP and #1 rated 1B in Wisconsin by Perfect Game, Hayden Timm, leads this group. Others who will fight for time at SS, 2B, and 3B will be McGrath, Brayden Deering (Kimberly, WI), Kalk, Thomas Burns (Greenville, WI), Ethan Peters, JJ Sargent (Hortonville, WI), Vela and Gavin Markert (Omro, WI).
OUTFIELD: Jeremiah Jahnke, Wyatt Brown, Jonah Conradt, Kevin McGrath, & Mitchell Grishaber, among others will battle for time in the outfield. In limited time with us last summer, Grishaber showed to be very consistent and clutch for us batting .523 in 23 plate appearances. McGrath is another one to watch for as our staff saw his swing last summer and it shows signs of good things to come and is advanced for his age. Burns could also see some time in the outfield as well in addition to his pitching duties.
CATCHERS: The backstop will be shared by Evan Olson, Max Kalk, and Logan Vanzummeren (Neenah, WI). Kalk and Vanzummeren bat left handed and Olson right handed which will provide for a good platoon situation. Olson is advanced blocking and receiving and Kalk continues to improve his overall defensive game as he will play Shortstop as well. Vanzummeren was our most improved player last year and took huge steps last year behind the plate and we look forward to his continued improvement this year. He should see some time at 1B too. Ethan Peters is also a capable catcher and could see some innings behind the plate in addition to the other three. Olson can play 3B and OF too and will be used in a variety of different ways.
PITCHING: In 11 years in travel baseball, this is the deepest pitching staff I have ever had. The staff goes 11 deep and it is going to be really fun to watch and see who rises to the top and leads the staff this summer.
Jeremiah Jahnke LHP - 4 pitch mix with advanced mechanics
Wyatt Brown RHP - Last years team Most Valuable Pitcher - Consistent strike thrower and + changeup
Jonah Conradt RHP - Electric Arm with huge potential - Been up to 80mph already this offseason
Thomas Burns RHP - Great pitchers frame - New to pitching last year but high ceiling up to 81mph
JJ Sargent RHP - Sidearm reliever who is really tough on right handed hitters - K'd 23 in 20 IP last summer
Nate Vela RHP - Another electric arm who's mechanics are advanced with a plus changeup already
Brayden Deering RHP - Smooth mechanics with a plus changeup and cutter - 18 IP last summer with a 3.11 ERA
Ethan Peters RHP - Our best pitcher on the fall team - Displays consistent mechanics and locates at a high level
Gavin Markert RHP - Sinker/Slider style pitcher with a low 3/4 arm slot. 22 IP last year with a 2.86 ERA
Mitchell Grishaber LHP- A strike thrower who adds another left handed arm
Max Kalk RHP - Plus fastball velocity that could potentially be a closer type guy for us
HIGH FOLLOWS: #1 rated guys at their positions in the state (Perfect Game) Kalk (C) & Timm (1B), jump out right away with their advanced left handed swings and physicality. Timm's raw power is impressive and Kalk's smooth swing already looks to play at a high level. Conradt, Vela and Burns all show ability to be recruited early in their high school years because of their frames, arm speed, and potential on the mound. LHP Jahnke shows a 3 pitch arsenal that will be sure to attract some high level college coaches over the next few years. Other pitchers who with time and physical maturity should follow suit are Ethan Peters and Brayden Deering. Sargent could be a dark horse here due to his unique sidearm delivery which has become commonplace in the college baseball world.
POTENTIAL BREAKOUT PLAYER: RHP Jonah Conradt has opened our eyes already in limited reps throughout the winter. He's a talented basketball player as well so we don't see him a lot over the winter. It will be exciting to see him this summer pitching on the travel circuit and pit him against some of the best players and teams in the midwest and see how he stacks up.
BOTTOM LINE: This team is our most competitive from top to bottom and displays the best and deepest pitching staff I've had in 11 years. The new additions make this team a contender for one of the best teams in the midwest. We had to cut 4-5 really good baseball players during tryouts for this team back in August and it is still a big roster with 15 players that are all college level baseball players. ET Maoz will lead this team again into 2020 and looks to grow on the tremendous inaugural year they had in year one.
